Introduction to: You Are Capable

Author: Benda Mosby

The following is an introduction to my book, You Are Capable. If you like what you read, please share and buy the book.

You are not your disability!

I decided to write this guide because I wanted to share with you my own enlightenment and success, after much frustration and struggle, during my pursuit of employment as a person living with a disability. The more you know, the more opportunities you will have available to you.

I finally embraced myself as a whole person, once I processed and accepted my disability. To further encourage and inspire you I have included my personal story, in segments, at the end of the four chapters of this guide.

I realized that my self-perception was the key to how others viewed me. Whenever I felt hopeless, others would see me as helpless. It was only when I discovered how to believe in myself that my life began to unfold in new and miraculous ways.

You are capable of so much! Every person has a right to reach for their goals, even if they must achieve them through alternative means and ways. You have the same rights as every other person to dream, strive to improve your health, and reach for a future full of possibilities.

It is not a well-known fact that persons receiving either Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits can work and still receive benefits, if they follow the rules that apply to their type of disability.

You must make an investment in yourself. Reading this booklet is the first step to becoming informed of your options to work. You should carry it with you to all appointments. It will likely become your closest career companion. Use the pages at the back to record your notes or questions as you educate yourself about what is available to you.

This publication aims to cover the most vital information available, but please be sure to check for the latest website updates or changes, phone numbers, or items specific to your geographic location. Included here is much information that is nationwide and pertinent from state-to-state, but be aware that some of the information is state-specific to the author’s home in Colorado.

By studying this guide you can learn “how” to best help yourself, “what” you can do, “when” to do certain things, “where” to go, and “who” can assist you along the way. The important thing to remember is that, with a little time and effort on your own behalf, you CAN work while receiving disability benefits!

It is my deep desire that this booklet will motivate and inspire you to realize your ability to achieve anything.

You are valued!
